NO MORE TONSILS... and Adenoids!!!

About a month ago I was driving down the road with the boys and all of a sudden Sawyer says, "MOM.... I CAN'T BREATH!
I panic.
I pull over and get out of the car to check on him. He opens his mouth and I see this!! His airway is blocked!
I flipped out! I called Brett and told him I was going to the ER with Sawyer. We get to the ER and they look in his mouth and say.... "YEP this kid needs his tonsils out ASAP." He has what they call "Kissing Tonsils".
2 weeks earlier I had taken him in to get a check up and the doctor didn't say anything about his tonsils being large. I contacted Sawyer's Birth Parents and asked if they still had their tonsils. They both said they did but his Birth Dad Jason said he always had tonsil issues and probably should have had his take out as a kid.
I was totally blindsided by this all. How long did he have this and how the heck did I not know?!?
After researching it more and asking other Mom's who had tonsil kids the signs were there, I just didn't know it. :-(
Here are the signs your kid may need his tonsils checked:

1) They may have sore throat issues. They may not though too. Sawyer NEVER complained of a sore throat. The ENT doctor said he probably has just had them so long that his body acclimated to them.
2) He had a HORRIBLE gag reflex and had difficulty eating. He had to take super small bites or he would throw up.
3) Snoring. Sawyer had some loud snoring but so does his Birth Dad so I figured it was just something he inherited.
4) Bed Wetting. Sawyer was well potty trained.... even during the night with no accidents. Then when the snoring began he started bed wetting ALL THE TIME. That happens because when they have sleep apena and get into such a DEEP sleep they don't wake up to go potty if needed.
5) Bad Breath. For a 4 year old he had some stinky breath and I know it wasn't from lack of brushing.
6) Huge Tonsils! Just open their mouth and look.
There are many more signs but these were the major ones I failed to put 2 & 2 together.

So after seeing and ENT pedi doctor we scheduled his surgery for today.
Here he is before surgery. He brought Giraffe along of course. He said he is "glad to have them out but sad he can't show them off anymore." He was so proud of his huge tonsils. :-)
Open wide and saw AHHHHHHH
Just shooting the breeze with Daddy.
He is one happy little boy!

When it was time to roll him back into the Operating Room, Brett was allowed to go with him until he went to sleep. (Just one of the many perks for working at a hospital!)

The whole operation lasted about 30 mins and then he was headed to the recovery room. Before he woke up fully they had Brett and I come be by his side when he woke up so he wouldn't be scared.

That tear about killed us. He didn't like being all disoriented. :-(

After he woke up a bit more he wanted Daddy and Mommy snuggles.

A few hours later it was time to go home! He was good to go and tonsil free!! He is enjoying his endless supply of jello and popsicles.
We are SOOO grateful for everyone who took care of him. Especially Heavenly Father!
